How to make a Bentonite Clay Armpit Mask
So you’re looking for a way to detox your armpits, chances are you’ve tried almost everything, but can’t get rid of your body odor. It’s okay, it happens to the best of us. The good news is, this bentonite clay armpit mask actually works! Since transitioning to a more natural way of life, I’ve struggled with finding a good and natural deodorant that actually works. So I starting doing a lot of research to figure out ways to eliminate the stink. With that being said, the most effective way to rid your pits of odor, is bentonite clay.

There’s a good reason that bentonite clay works so well, because of its supposed ability to bind to toxins and remove them from the body, it helps aid in the detoxification process. For me personally, this has been a great natural remedy with the best results I have found. I am honestly very impressed with how much it has helped me.
Where does pure bentonite clay come from?
Bentonite clay develops as volcanic ash ages. This type of clay has undergone a transformation process over geologic time periods. There are two main ways this happens:
- Volcanic ash weathering in seawater: When volcanic ash settles in seawater, it reacts and decomposes, transforming into clay minerals. This is the most common way bentonite clay forms. (montmorillonite clay)
- Hydrothermal alteration: Volcanic ash beds can also be altered by hot water circulating through them. This process, called hydrothermal circulation, causes the volcanic glass in the ash to devitrify, meaning it transforms into clay minerals.
So what are the health benefits?
Health Benefits for detoxing armpits:
- Deodorizing: Bentonite clay can absorb sweat and oil, which can help reduce odor-causing bacteria. This might be beneficial when switching to natural deodorants that don’t block sweat.
- Exfoliation: The clay’s texture may gently remove dead skin cells, promoting smoother and healthier underarm skin.
- Reduced Irritation: Some people find that using a bentonite clay mask helps soothe irritation caused by ingredients in some natural deodorants.
Something to keep in mind:
- Drying Effect: Clay can be drying, so it’s important to moisturize after use, especially if you have sensitive skin.
Tips for using the bentonite clay armpit mask:
- Patch test the mask on a small area of your skin before applying it to your entire armpit. You may experience a slight redness, that’s normal, but if you start to experience skin irritation, it’s best to remove clay mask from the skin’s surface.
- Keep the mask on for the recommended time (usually 5-20 minutes) and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Your armpits can be one of those sensitive areas, so it’s a good idea to start out with less time and work your way up. You know your body, so just listen to it.
- Moisturize your armpits after using the mask. I just use a thin layer of some coconut oil and with a few drops of calming essential oils (lavender or chamomile).
- Don’t use the mask every day, as it can be drying. I typically will us this bentonite clay armpit mask every week or week and a half. The armpit mask completely substitutes my use for deodorant. It’s a good alternative for deodorant, but you should not use it everyday. If you’ve found a good deodorant with natural ingredients, that you use daily, then I would suggest only using the armpit mask every two weeks. That’s the best way to ensure you are still ridding your body of toxins, while keeping your armpits healthy at the same.

Ingredients for the armpit detox mask:
Bentonite clay powder
Organic apple cider vinegar
Filtered water
Instructions:
In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon bentonite clay, 1 teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar, and 1-2 teaspoons filtered water.
Mix clay mixture until you get a nice smooth paste.
Spread an even, thick layer of clay over your armpits and let it sit for 5-20 minutes.
Wash it off in the shower with warm water, or with a warm, wet washcloth
Repeat as needed until underarm odor goes away
Notes: It may take a couple of times for the odor to subside. If this is the case, just take a small amount of mask and apply it to your armpits again. If your skin becomes irritated, just wait for skin to calm down and try again (with less clay and less time). Keep in mind, there are different skin types, so if you have very sensitive skin, this mask may not be the best fit for you.
