I have always loved a good pumpkin latte, in fact, my favorite used to be Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes. That was until I started looking into their ingredients, and that’s when I decided I would learn to make my own homemade pumpkin syrup. So now I make my own homemade version of pumpkin lattes with my own simple syrup, using basic ingredients that I can pronounce!

This homemade pumpkin spice syrup recipe is a pretty versatile recipe! You don’t have to stick to just pumpkin lattes.

Here are a few other ideas to use homemade syrup:

  • Coffee and Tea: Replace plain sugar in your coffee or tea with pumpkin spice syrup to add in those fall spices! Super nice for iced coffee too.
  • Hot Chocolate: Add a little bit to your hot chocolate for an easy way to spice up your cup. Literally so gooooood!
  • Ice Cream and Milkshakes: Drizzle pumpkin spice syrup over vanilla ice cream or blend it into a milkshake for yummy pumpkin treats.
  • Pancakes, Waffles, or French Toast: Use pumpkin spice syrup in place of maple syrup – perfect way to live pumpkin season to its fullest!
  • Yogurt and Oatmeal: Add a spoonful of pumpkin spice syrup to plain yogurt or oatmeal for a warming and flavorful topping. Such a comforting treat!
  • Baked Goods: I love to add this simple syrup to glazes before adding them to make fall baked goods!
  • Fall Charcuterie Board: Drizzle pumpkin spice syrup over cheese or fruit for a touch of sweetness and spice. Perfect for family gatherings!

Ingredients

1 cup light brown sugar, packed

¾ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1 cup water

3 tablespoons pumpkin purée

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together light brown sugar and water until the sugar dissolves. Stir frequently and don’t let it boil.
  2. Stir in pumpkin puree and vanilla until dissolved. Add and stir in the pumpkin pie spice.
  3. Cook for about 10 minutes total, being careful not to boil. Turn off the heat and let the mixture sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Strain mixture through a fine mesh strainer.
  5. Store in a glass jar or airtight container for up to 1 week.

Notes

  1. You can adjust the amount of pumpkin puree or pumpkin pie spice depending on how strong of a pumpkin spice flavor you like
  2. Enjoy your homemade simple syrup for up to a week
  3. I love using actual pumpkin in this recipe, but you can leave the pumpkin puree out if you only want the spices
  4. You can use homemade pumpkin puree, or a can of pumpkin puree, they are the same!
